- He was born in Trimbak, Maharashtra, in 1870. After watching the 1906 silent film The Life of Christ, he became interested in motion pictures and studied engineering and sculpture.
- Before entering the film industry, Phalke ran a printing press, worked as a photographer, and even collaborated with renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma.
- The silent Raja Harishchandra, which Phalke wrote, produced, and directed, was the nation of India’s first motion picture. Phalke made 26 short films and 95 further pictures over the course of the following 19 years as a result of the film’s commercial success.
- His title is “Pioneer of Indian Cinema.”
