State Cabinet Decisions:  Water Cess on Power Projects

 

 In a significant move towards sustainable development, the State Cabinet has formed a committee chaired by the Secretary of Energy. The committee will engage with Power Developers to discuss the implementation of a water cess on various power projects within the state. This initiative aims to ensure the conservation and responsible utilization of water resources. Representatives from the Jal Shakti Department, Finance Department, and Law Department will also contribute to this committee’s deliberations, ensuring a comprehensive approach.

State Cabinet Decisions:  Educational Advancements

 

The Cabinet has approved the construction of Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools up to the primary level in Jwalamukhi (Kangra district), Fatehpur, and Bhoranj (Hamirpur district). These additions complement the 13 schools already approved for construction in the state. This visionary step will expand educational opportunities, enhance access to quality education, and contribute to the holistic development of young minds in these regions.

Strengthening the Prison Department

 

Recognizing the need for a well-functioning prison system, the Cabinet has sanctioned the filling of 69 vacant positions for jail warders. Additionally, 20 posts of various categories in Nalagarh (Kishanpura) sub-jail, located in Solan district, will be filled. These decisions reinforce the commitment to maintaining secure and well-managed correctional facilities for the welfare of society.

To bolster security and tourism-related services, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of Highway-cum-Tourist Police Stations at Bhaghed (Bilaspur district), Nerchowk (Mandi district), and Bhuntar (Kullu district) along the Kiratpur-Manali National Highway. Furthermore, the creation and filling of necessary posts across various categories will facilitate the smooth functioning of these stations. In a move towards recognizing the contributions of Panchayat Chowkidars, the Cabinet has raised their monthly honorarium from Rs. 6,200 to Rs. 6,700. This decision will directly benefit 3,226 Panchayat Chowkidars across the state. Furthermore, selected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions will also witness an increase in their honorarium, empowering them to serve their communities more effectively.

With a focus on promoting hospitality and tourism, the Cabinet has approved an extension of bar timings from 12 noon to 1 am for the year 2023-24. The Cabinet has given its approval to initiate medical and non-medical classes in Government College Dhami, located in Shimla district.
